Scott S. Reuben MD

Appointed To Scientific Advisory Committee

The Board of Directors of the International Research Foundation for RSD / CRPS proudly announces the appointment of Scott S. Reuben, MD to the Scientific Advisory Committee. Dr. Reuben has already made a significant contribution to the Foundation with his report:

 

Preventing RSD / CRPS After Surgery

 

Dr. Reuben is Director of the Acute Pain Service and Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at Baystate Medical Center and the Tufts University School of Medicine in Springfield, Massachusetts.

 

Dr. Reuben completed his undergraduate work at Columbia College in New York and earned his medical degree from SUNY at Buffalo School of Medicine. He then completed his anesthesia residency and fellowship in pain management and regional anesthesia at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York.

After completing his residency and fellowship training, Dr. Reuben became the Co-director of the Pain Management Services at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York.

 

Dr. Reuben has authored over 100 articles and 75 abstracts in peer reviewed anesthesia, pain medicine, surgery, and orthopedic journals. He annually presents papers and lectures at both the national and international level speaking on all items of interest for the pain management practitioner and scientists, including acute pain management, pre-emptive analgesia, and the use of various analgesics to manage pain.

 

He has held many committee assignments during the past decade. He has served as an advisory board member for the JCAHO on implementing the Joint Commission Pain standards for the year 2001. He has also served on the ASA Task Force for Acute Pain Management. Dr. Reuben currently serves as a journal reviewer for Anesthesiology, Anesthesia & Analgesia, Journal of Pain and Symptom Management, Journal of Clinical Anesthesia, Journal of Bone and Joint surgery, Arthroscopy, Journal of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, and Lancet.

Dr. Reuben is active with many professional activities and associations, both regional and international including the American Medical Association, Massachusetts Medical Society, Hampden County Medical Society, American Society of Anesthesiologists, Massachusetts Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, International Anesthesia Research Society, and the International Association for the Study of Pain.

 

He has received several awards during his medical career for both his educational and research achievements. Dr. Reuben has recently been awarded first place at medical meetings for his work on COX-2 inhibitors and alpha-2 agonists, and has been named Teacher of the Year at both Baystate Medical Center and Mount Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Reuben holds diplomas from the National Board of Medical Examiners, American Board of Anesthesiology, and is Board Certified in Pain Management by the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Board of Pain Medicine.
